Written by McCallie School | Feb 24, 2025 2:46:37 PM

At McCallie School, mentorship forms the cornerstone of our approach to developing young men of character and ability. Our multi-layered mentoring system, built over more than a century of experience, creates lasting relationships that guide boys through adolescence and beyond.

Faculty Mentorship: Beyond the Classroom

McCallie's residential faculty members serve as mentors living on campus, creating organic opportunities for guidance and support. With 85% of our faculty holding advanced degrees, these mentor relationships combine academic expertise with life experience. Our faculty-student ratio of 1:7 ensures personal attention and meaningful connections.

The Advisor System

Each McCallie student is assigned a dedicated faculty advisor who monitors academic progress, provides guidance, and serves as a liaison between school and family. These advisors meet weekly with their advisee groups, creating a trusted space for both academic and personal growth.

Peer Mentorship Programs

McCallie's unique programs include:

  • Senior leadership initiatives where upperclassmen mentor younger students
  • The Blue Torch program pairing new students with experienced McCallie boys
  • Residential prefect system developing leadership skills
  • Peer tutoring programs fostering academic excellence

Alumni Mentorship Network

Our active alumni network provides career guidance, internship opportunities, and life mentorship to current students and recent graduates. The McCallie connection extends well beyond graduation, creating lifelong mentoring relationships.
