Trustee Emeritus Fletcher Bright '49 remembered for success in business, love of music and devotion to McCallie School

Fletcher Bright ‘49, one of McCallie School’s most loyal sons and a true renaissance man, passed away surrounded by family and friends at his home in Chattanooga on Christmas Day.

Bright was a leader in business, philanthropy and the arts throughout his life. He was a noted real estate developer in Chattanooga for decades at his company Fletcher Bright Company, where he learned the business from his father, 1909 McCallie graduate Gardner Bright.

For all his success in real estate, Fletcher Bright was perhaps most well known as an accomplished bluegrass musician and founding member of the Dismembered Tennesseans, which he started as a student at McCallie with classmates Frank McDonald ‘48, Sammy Joyce ‘48 and Ansley Moses ‘48.

Bandy named USTA Tennessee tennis pro of the year

McCallie assistant tennis coach Meg Bandy has been honored for her dedication to teaching the sport of tennis and helping grow the sport by the Tennessee chapter of the United States Tennis Association.

Bandy was named Tennis Professional of the Year, a prestigious award is given to a tennis professional that demonstrates a significant contribution to the game of tennis through the promotion of USTA programs and support of the USTA Mission.

Bandy was honored by the USTA for her work throughout the nation on behalf of the sport of tennis as well as her work coaching the Blue Tornado tennis program.

McCallie students gather gifts to make Christmas special for area children

With exams over for the Fall semester and Christmas Break under way, the McCallie community will take time to spend with family and friends to celebrate this special season. Blue Tornado wrestling wins McCallie Invitational

The Blue Tornado claimed the team title in the 37th annual McCallie Invitational Wrestling Tournament December 15-16 with 209.5 team points, inching out second-place Woodland (Ga.) which earned 193.5 points.
