Dr. Duke Richey '86 receives DAR teaching award

Dr. Duke Richey '86 accepts his award as Tennessee's Outstanding Teacher of American History by the state chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Duke stands at the state DAR awards banquet with DAR state Historian Cindy Dearing, left, and Joye Duke, DAR Chickamauga Chapter Regent.

Dr. Duke Richey '86 was honored last week as Tennessee's Outstanding Teacher of American History by the state chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Dr. Richey, who holds the Baker Chair of American History at McCallie, teaches AP American History at McCallie and regularly has students competing and winning at the district, state and national levels in the History Day competition. 

The Outstanding Teacher of American History Contest honors notable full-time teachers of history (and related fields such as social studies, government, and citizenship education) in public, private, and parochial schools, grades 5-12. To be considered for this honor, a teacher must have demonstrated excellence in:
