The National Honor Society is among the nation's best known organizations dedicated to recognizing outstanding high school students. Founded in 1921, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service and character. Months of hard work and research paid off for several history students who found success at the regional competition for National History Day.
McCallie had a strong showing at the contest in Cleveland, Tenn., with 15 students advancing to the state competition. For the third consecutive year, McCallie students swept all three spots in the essay competition.
Students competing in National History Day have been working with Dr. Duke Richey ‘86 for most of the school year on their projects, based on this year’s theme of "Taking a Stand.” The top two finishers in each category now move on to compete at the state level in Nashville on April 9, with the top two in each category at state moving on to the national competition, which will be held in Washington, D.C., this summer.
McCallie students continue to produce strong results in national academic testing with 15 seniors earning National Merit Commended status for 2017 as a result of strong performances in 2016 on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Semifinalist Qualifying Test.National Merit Commended status puts these students in the top 5 percent of all students taking the PSAT/NMSQT.Read More
Three McCallie seniors were named National Merit Semifinalists for 2017 by the National Merit Scholarship Program this month for their outstanding scores on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Semifinalist Qualifying Test in 2016.
Day students Maclain Aslinger and Andrew Aultman, along with boarding student Nathaniel Little from Atlanta, were named as three of the approximately 16,000 semifinalists nationwide.Read More
