With exams over for the Fall semester and Christmas Break under way, the McCallie community will take time to spend with family and friends to celebrate this special season. However, before leaving for the semester, students in the Upper and Middle schools gave generously to ensure this Christmas season is a merry one for others who may not have as much during the holidays.
"The Season of Giving is a chance for our community to help the larger community,” said Dean of Students Bob Bires. “It really is just everybody coming together and helping out in one way or another to accomplish the larger goal. I am always amazed."
Just before exams began, students, faculty and staff in the Upper School bought presents to fill more than 100 Christmas lists for students at Westside Elementary School in Catoosa County, Ga., and a group of students delivered the gifts to the Westside kids and spend time talking with the kids to make everyone’s Christmas a little bit brighter.
At Thanksgiving, the Upper and Middle schools combined to provide turkey dinners that were given to families in need by the Salvation Army. Upper School students raised money to purchase 75 turkeys, and the Middle School collected green beans, peas, stuffing, cranberries, potatoes, mac & cheese for the Thanksgiving baskets to complete the holiday meals.
These are just some of the many ways McCallie School students, parents, faculty and staff have found ways to reach out and help our neighbors during this special time of year.
McCallie embraces the chance to partner with agencies and charities across the city to make Christmas brighter for everyone throughout the Chattanooga area, and putting the true meaning of the season first.
McCallie’s offices will be closed until after the New Year begins. From all of us at McCallie, we wish everyone a healthy and happy holiday season, and we look forward to seeing everyone when classes for the spring on January 9, 2018.
