The football team returns home to host Webb School of Knoxville in a non-Region game. Kickoff at Spears Stadium is set for 7:30 pm.
The Spartans bring a 1-1 record to the contest. They posted a season-opening 26-16 victory over Asheville (N.C.) and lost last week to DII-AAA foe Ensworth 35-14.
Webb rolled to an 11-2 overall record last season and played for the DII-A state title last season, finishing as runner-up. The Spartans have moved up to DII-AA this season and have some firepower on offense with senior quarterback Hunter Green and freshman running back Elijah Howard. Defensively, senior linebacker Morgan Ernst returns to lead the defense. He was a Mr. Football finalist in 2016.
McCallie, 2-1, experienced its first loss of the season last week in the Region opener at Montgomery Bell Academy. The Blue Tornado stormed out to an early 10-0 lead in a steady rain before giving up 28 straight points to the Big Red. A late rally wasn’t enough as McCallie fell 35-23.
Despite the loss, the Blue Tornado outgained MBA on the ground, 202-167. Senior Xavier Brooks eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark with 116 yards on 20 carries. Defensively, senior Adams Robinson picked off a pass and ran it in for a 39-yard score for the game’s first points.
Tickets for the game are $10 and can be purchased near the stadium. Friday’s game can be viewed via Internet stream at: https://www.mccallie.org/live
