Summertime Thoughts

Posted by Kenny Sholl on June 20, 2010

Men of McCallie,

I hope your summer is going well. Mine is a bit busier than I expected, but it is fun and necessary work. I have managed to snag a few bass and hit a couple of golf balls and am looking forward to a few weeks away from the office in July.

One of my favorite aspects of being an educator is the opportunity we have each year to start over. As students, you have the very same opportunity. This summer while you are getting a rest from the intensity of life on the Ridge, you can resolve to improve in certain areas of your lives. Some obvious ones are:

  • Grades
  • Physical Conditioning
  • Relationships
  • Bad Habits
  • Punctuality
  • Procrastination
  • Patience
  • Sensitivity, etc.

Of course there are countless others. My challenge to you is to pick several areas of your lives that could use a little improvement and set a goal to make the changes. You can do it! I hope you will take advantage of this rare time in your lives when you get to “start over” every August.

For now, stay on top of your summer reading and remember that Convocation is Monday, August 23 at 8:15 a.m.

I will see you men in a few months.

Warmly (both from the heart and from the HEAT!),

Dean Sholl
